NGOs should be allowed to conduct Anti-Corruption Rally

The Cambodian Human Rights Action Committee (CHRAC), a coalition of 17 local NGOs, strongly urges the Government to grant permission for the Khmer Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Organization ( KHRACO) and the Cambodia Independent Watch Committee on Corruption to organize a rally to celebrate International Anti-Corruption Day. The rally was planned for December 14 in Wat Botum Vatei park.

 

International Anti-Corruption Day marks the continued efforts by nations around the world to end corruption. The UN General Assembly adopted the Convention Against Corruption on the 31 October this year. International Anti-Corruption Day saw the first signatures of 125 states in support of the convention. Cambodia has not yet signed the convention.

Corruption still rampant in 70 countries, says Corruption Perceptions Index 2005

Many countries face profound obstacles in escaping the poverty trap London / Berlin, 18 October 2005 --- More than two-thirds of the 159 nations surveyed in Transparency International’s 2005 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) scored less than 5 out of a clean score of 10, indicating serious levels of corruption in a majority of the countries surveyed.

 

Corruption continues to threaten development

The 2005 Index bears witness to the double burden of poverty and corruption borne by the

world’s least developed countries.

21 July at the Cambodiana Hotel: the press-launch of the

freedom of information platform summaries of the eleven

political parties.

 

On Monday 21 July 2008 at 9am the Advocacy and Policy Institute with the​ Freedom of  information Working Group, which has 18 organizations, will launch at the Cambodiana Hotel, as part of their campaign for access to public information, a valuable booklet: ‘The Platform Summary for Freedom of Information of the Eleven Political Parties Participating in the National Election on 27 July 2008’

 

The publication of thousands of booklets are aimed at raising public awareness of the attitudes and intentions of the eleven political parties on freedom of information. This value booklet is very essential for Cambodian and can help them to follow up the winning party’s commitment to their pre election intentions.
